Egg donation is a life-changing option for women who cannot use their own eggs due to age, medical conditions, or genetic risks — offering new hope and the possibility of parenthood.

What is Egg Donation?

At Genesis Athens, egg donation is a specialized fertility treatment in which donor eggs — obtained from accredited donor banks — are used to create embryos. The selected eggs are fertilized with a partner’s (or donor’s) sperm sample. The resulting embryos are then transferred to the patient’s uterus to achieve pregnancy.

This treatment offers hope to women who cannot use their own eggs due to age, low ovarian reserve, repeated failed IVF cycles, or genetic disorders.

Treatment steps

Your step-by-step guide to Egg Donation

Every treatment at Genesis follows a structured, personalised process designed to support you medically and emotionally at every stage. From the first consultation to post-treatment care, we are here to guide you with clarity, expertise, and compassion. While each treatment has its own clinical steps, the journey always begins with understanding your individual needs and building a plan that gives you the best possible chance of success.

Egg Donation
You will meet with a fertility specialist to discuss your medical history, assess your eligibility, and explain how the egg donation programme works.
Our team will help match you with a suitable donor based on medical and personal criteria. You will also review and sign all necessary legal documentation.
Depending on your menstrual cycle and the agreed date with the medical team, your endometrium will be prepared for the transfer of embryos obtained from donated eggs. Hormonal medication helps prepare the uterus for embryo implantation.
Donor eggs are fertilised with the selected sperm in our lab. Embryos are cultured and monitored carefully before transfer.
A healthy embryo is transferred to your uterus using a gentle, ultrasound-guided procedure. Any surplus embryos may be frozen for future use.
Two weeks after the transfer, a blood test is performed to confirm whether the treatment has resulted in pregnancy.
