What is Sperm Donation?

Sperm donation is a fertility treatment that helps couples or single individuals achieve pregnancy using sperm from a healthy donor who has been pre-screened and approved. As with egg donation, donated sperm is obtained from accredited banks that store this type of biological material in compliance with national and European regulations.

This treatment is suitable for couples facing severe male infertility and for single women who wish to start a family. Depending on the couple’s medical situation, an assisted reproduction procedure using donor sperm can be carried out either through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) or Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).

Treatment steps

Your step-by-step guide to Sperm Donation

Every treatment at Genesis follows a structured, personalised process designed to support you medically and emotionally at every stage. From the first consultation to post-treatment care, we are here to guide you with clarity, expertise, and compassion. While each treatment has its own clinical steps, the journey always begins with understanding your individual needs and building a plan that gives you the best possible chance of success.

Sperm Donation
You will meet with a fertility specialist to discuss your history, explore your options, and determine the most appropriate treatment using donor sperm.
Our team will help you select a suitable donor from our licensed partner banks, considering medical compatibility and personal preferences. You will also review and sign the required legal and consent documents.
Depending on your situation, your doctor will recommend either intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF using donor sperm. Your cycle will be timed and supported with hormonal or ovulation-monitoring protocols as needed.
If IVF is used, the donor sperm is used to fertilise the egg in the laboratory. The resulting embryos are monitored and prepared for transfer.
With IUI, donor sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation. With IVF, a selected embryo is transferred into the uterus under ultrasound guidance.
A blood test is performed approximately two weeks later to determine whether the treatment has resulted in pregnancy.
